What to see in Alassio: the historic center and the Budello<\/h2>\n\n

They\u2019re chocolate and hazelnut cookies filled with rich chocolate ganache, shaped like little swirls, with a soft texture that melts in your mouth. Just thinking about them makes our mouths water. <\/p>\n\n

The original recipe dates back to the 1920s, created by pastry chef Balzola<\/a>. Legend says they were inspired by the romantic habit of tourists exchanging secret kisses between beach cabins. Make sure you try them! <\/p>\n\n

Laigueglia<\/strong> lies just east of Alassio, only a few minutes away on foot or by bike. Its historic center is perhaps even better preserved, featuring a remarkable Baroque church (San Matteo<\/a>, with a fa\u00e7ade worth the walk alone) and a quieter beach. It\u2019s a lovely spot for lunch or sunset. <\/p>\n\n

Albenga<\/strong>, about ten kilometers away, is the main town inland. Its Roman-medieval historic center is one of the best preserved in Liguria: towers, an early Christian baptistery (one of the largest in Italy), and the Roman Naval Museum displaying artifacts from a shipwrecked cargo of amphorae. You can explore it comfortably in half a day. <\/p>\n\n

Cervo<\/strong>, a bit further east toward Imperia, is one of the most photographed medieval villages on the western Ligurian coast. The Baroque Church of the Corallini perched on the headland is its symbol, but the entire old village, with its narrow alleys and sea-view terraces, is worth the trip. <\/p>\n\n

Toirano<\/strong> is inland and famous for its prehistoric caves<\/a>, which can be visited on guided tours, as well as for the medieval village above. It\u2019s a great half-day alternative to the beach. <\/p>\n\n

For focaccia and farinata, try Il Fornaio di Alassio<\/a><\/strong>. Since 1963 it has been serving pizzas and focaccia, cheese focaccia, pastries, Baci di Alassio, Pan Dolce, and a loaf filled with fresh mixed fruit.<\/p>\n\n
