Dimora 1690 is a villa in the center of Savigliano, built—as the name suggests—at the end of the 17th century. Ortensia is one of the two apartments within the property, overlooking the large shared garden with centuries-old trees, a bench tucked under the branches, and an old brick wall covered in moss and, in spring, daffodils. It’s rare to find such a quiet, enclosed green space just a short walk from the town center.

The apartment is set on the main floor of the villa and retains many of the building’s original features: vaulted ceilings, masonry arches, terracotta floors, and parquet. The rooms are spacious and well proportioned, with light that shifts throughout the day thanks to the windows facing the garden.

From the entrance—with a security door and a small area for coats and luggage—you step directly into Ortensia’s large living area, divided into two main spaces.

The first is the dining area with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, the most distinctive architectural feature of the apartment. At the center is a round dark wood table with four walnut Louis Philippe chairs with light leather seats, lit by a two-tier wicker chandelier. Here you’ll find everything you need for breakfast, an aperitivo, or a quick meal: a fridge, kettle, microwave, and coffee machine. There is no hob, sink, or oven—just so you know exactly what to expect before booking. If you rent the entire villa, you’ll also have access to the full kitchen in the Erica apartment.

The second area is the living room, the heart of the apartment: large, with warm peach-colored walls, sage green curtains on the windows overlooking the garden, ceiling fan and a red stone fireplace with a decorated hood that spans an entire wall. Mustard leather sofas and armchairs complete a space that blends contemporary pieces with objects from the 1960s, when the current owners acquired the villa. There’s also a table facing the garden, ideal if you’re working remotely and want a quiet, dedicated workspace.

Rooms with a view and fireplace

Ortensia has two bedrooms.

The double bedroom is probably the most striking room in the apartment. It features a white marble fireplace with shell decorations, a shield-shaped gilded mirror above the mantel, a built-in bookshelf with bound books and succulents, and a window overlooking the garden. The bed is large, and the TV is integrated into the wall shelving.

The single bedroom is more compact, with a single bed, a dark wood desk, and a bedside table with a lamp. A built-in wardrobe and a small corridor connect it to the rest of the apartment.

A simple and bright bathroom

The bathroom serves both bedrooms and is spacious and bright, with a window overlooking the garden, sand-colored stoneware finishes, a double sink set on a low lacquered cabinet, bidet, and shower. Simple and practical, it has everything you need.

The garden of the rental apartment in Savigliano

Calling it a garden almost feels limiting. Dimora 1690 is surrounded by a beautiful park with centuries-old trees, accessible both from the Ortensia apartment and from Erica, the other unit in the villa. Here you can walk in the shade of tall trees, lie on the grass, read on one of the wooden benches, and, in season, enjoy daffodils, daisies, and small wildflowers.

It’s an elegant but unpretentious outdoor space, perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine at the end of the day, or for hosting a yoga, pilates, or meditation retreat, or even a team-building session.

And, in case you didn’t know, it’s also home to Vayadù’s headquarters.

The town also has a lively and active cultural scene. It’s a great base if you’re working in the area or want to explore southwestern Piedmont. The Langhe and Monferrato are an easy drive away, as are the Maritime Alps, ideal for hiking or cycling.
