Let’s start with Alassioa place I know well – I manage several holiday homes here and spent many summers growing up in this town. I love it! In my opinion, it’s the perfect spot if you’re after soft sandy beaches (a rare find in Liguria!) and a gently sloping sea, great for kids too.
If it’s your first time in Alassio, don’t miss:
- a stroll along Il Budello, the pedestrian shopping street lined with stores, bakeries, and boutiques – don’t skip Balzola for a box of the city’s signature Baci di Alassio cookies;
- snapping a photo at the famous Muretto di Alassio, decorated with tiles signed by celebrities – from Gabibbo to Ernest Hemingway;
- a morning cappuccino and focaccia at Bar Pasticceria Impero.

Laigueglia: the postcard-perfect village
Just a few minutes from Alassio, Laiguegliais a little gem that’s kept its authentic fishing village soul. Think pastel-colored houses, fishing nets drying in the sun, and a peaceful seafront promenade – especially at sunset.
A perfect pick if you’re looking for:
- a romantic getaway with charming alleys and cozy seafood spots;
- quiet beaches and a small but lovely town center;
- the “real” Liguria, far from tourist crowds.
Finale Ligure: sea, history, and outdoor fun
Finale Ligure Finale Ligure is one of the most well-rounded destinations – at least according to my guests! You’ll find wide beaches great for families, plus a gorgeous inland area full of outdoor activities.
My suggestions for Finale Ligure:
- visit the medieval village of Finalborgo, one of the most beautiful in Italy, with ancient walls, artisan shops, and great little restaurants;
- try rock climbing – the local cliffs are among the most famous in Europe;
- explore some of the most scenic MTB trails in the Mediterranean;
If you like mixing beach time with adventure, this is your sweet spot.
Sanremo: more than just the Music Festival
When people think of Sanremo, the Music Festival is the first thing that comes to mind – and maybe staying up late to catch the final! But the “City of Flowers” has so much more to offer.
Don’t miss:
- a walk along Corso Matteotti, with its shops and classic cafés;
- the medieval Pigna neighborhood, with its narrow and mysterious alleyways;
- the Riviera dei Fiori Cycle Path, a 24-km track along the old Genova-Ventimiglia railway, perfect for biking or walking all the way to Ospedaletti.
Sanremo combines elegance, culture, and nature in the best possible way.
Ospedaletti: peace and mild weather
Just after Sanremo lies Ospedaletti – a hidden gem, and home to our Casa Étoile,a spacious 100 sqm holiday home with a beautiful sea view. The town has a peaceful seafront, a mild microclimate all year round, and a super relaxed vibe.
Recommended for those seeking:
- pure, stress-free weekend breaks;
- calm seas and uncrowded beaches;
- gentle, scenic walks by the sea.
Cinque Terre: timeless magic
No Liguria list is complete without them. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore are postcard-ready villages with some of the most stunning views in all of Italy.
My local advice:
- avoid July and August if you can – it gets really crowded;
- spring or September are ideal, especially for hiking trails like Via dell’Amore or the Sentiero Azzurro;
- don’t leave without tasting muscoli ripieni (stuffed mussels) and Sciacchetrà, a delicious local sweet wine.
Portofino: style meets nature
Small but unforgettable, Portofino is famous for luxury yachts and chic cafés, but it also offers lush green trails.
Make sure to:
- hike up to Punta Portofino Lighthouse for incredible views;
- sip a coffee in the iconic piazzetta while watching boats (and maybe a few VIPs) go by.
Lerici and Tellaro: poetry and endless sunsets
On the eastern side of Liguria, Lerici welcomes you with its lively seafront and castle, while nearby Tellaro is pure magic.
Tellaro, in particular, is perfect for:
- a romantic getaway, with its narrow, quiet streets;
- breathtaking sunsets over the sea;
- a seaside dinner of fresh fish at Osteria La Caletta.
Liguria’s inland gems
Liguria isn’t just about the sea. Its inland villages feel frozen in time and are well worth a visit. After all, you can take a break from the beach now and then!
Dolceacqua: where art and wine meet
Known for the bridge painted by Monet and the Doria Castle, Dolceacqua is a medieval town full of charm and home to Rossese wine. Wander its narrow lanes and enjoy a glass at a local wine bar.
Triora: the witch village
In the hills above Imperia, Triora is famous for its 1587 witch trials. Today, it’s a fascinating village with stone houses, panoramic views, and legends that captivate kids and adults alike. Great for those who love a bit of mystery with their history.
